Aptos is an unincorporated area of Santa Cruz County which comprises of several communities, such as Rio Del Mar, Aptos Hills-Larkin Valley and Day Valley. The community was named by Native Americans and it means "the meeting of two creeks" since Aptos is situated at the junction of Aptos Creek and Valencia Creek.
Visitors and residents of Aptos enjoy close proximity to the Forest of Nisene Marks State Park and Seacliff State Beach. Nisene Marks is frequently visited by hikers and mountain bikers. Aptos offers sand-bottom beaches and great waves which attract surfers from many different places. The town is also known for its fee ride biking and street skateboarding venues.
